ABOUT TRC

The beneficiaries of money raised through Laurel Run are individuals with disabilities who receive supports from The Resource Center and TRC Foundation, Inc. The Resource Center was founded in 1958 by a group of Chautauqua County parents desiring a better life for their children with cognitive disabilities. At that time, public schools did not accept children with severe disabilities, so most families either committed their children to institutions or kept them at home. “There was no place for our children to be,” recalled one parent. "They just sat there in a corner and watched TV.'

Having no facilities of its own, TRC used borrowed space to provide educational services to children during the morning; training programs for adults with disabilities were held in the afternoon. Slowly but surely, the agency grew, as more and more families heard about the services available and began bringing their disabled relatives to TRC.

Today, The Resource Center is one of Chautauqua County’s largest employers and one of the largest not-for-profit organizations in Western New York. Operating out of dozens of locations throughout the county, TRC provides services and supports to thousands of people with disabling conditions. The goal now, as it was in 1958, is to make a positive difference in the lives of people with disabilities.

TRC Foundation was established in 1995 to raise money to support The Resource Center’s work. Through funds generated by events such as Laurel Run, TRC Foundation has been able to grow its endowment while each year providing financial support to persons with disabilities and their families.
